Course Description

Year 9 Tikanga Māori

This is a 10-week course compulsory for all year 9 students at Glenfield College. 

This course is an introduction to Te Ao Māori and some main aspects of the culture. These include and are not limited to pōwhiri, kaitiakitanga, haka, waiata, weaving and a beginner level of the language. This enables students to have a greater understanding of the indigenous culture unique to Aotearoa and to explore why, when and how certain aspects are done.

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

Stationery Required for this course: 1 x 2B5 Exercise books and a device.

Pathway

The study of Te Ao Māori offers graduates the ability to pursue careers, such as teaching, research, archives, property, administration, policy advice, television, radio, acting, health work and social work. The knowledge of Te Ao Māori is becoming an asset to hold for many career pathways.
