Teacher in Charge: Mr K. Lee.
PrerequisitesStudents need to pass the writing portfolio internal, AS91101, and one other Level 2 English assessment. Students who do not meet these requirements may still apply for the course and selection will be based on results and teacher recommendations. The main factors being considered here will be how much academic resilience a student shows and how effectively they contribute to a positive learning environment. The HOD of English will decide the overall selection.
This course is designed for students who love studying English. There will be opportunities for writing in creative, creative-non-fiction, and academic forms. The course will include the study of a literary novel, a literary or language movement, and analyse texts through a critical lens. Through this course, students will be taught how to think critically and how to construct logically reasoned, convincing arguments so that the course acts as a stepping stone to tertiary study. The aim of the course is that it scaffolds students to success at Level 3, whilst simultaneously preparing them for the kind of academic rigour they will face beyond secondary school. This course is eligible for University Entrance endorsement and includes all the requirements for University Entrance Literacy as well as the University of Auckland's separate requirement.
